Higher Ground is an 18-week residential program for those suffering from alcohol and drug addiction in Auckland, New Zealand. This programme is available to New Zealand residents only and is free of charge to those with WINZ benefits. Utilising 12-Step facilitation in a culturally responsive environment, Higher Ground aims to assist the client’s social and psychological well-being to maintain long-term sobriety. Typical days start off with a morning stroll, followed by a nutritious breakfast and then work duties, such as cleaning the house. Afterward there are daily readings and group therapy sessions, including relapse prevention, transactional analysis, smoking cessation, and anger management. Additionally, Higher Ground offers a comprehensive Kaupapa Whānau Oranga programme, available to all residents regardless of ethnicity. This programme is grounded in a spiritual and family-driven approach to recovery. To further facilitate family healing, Higher Ground also offers family education courses and family visits. Located in the heart of Auckland, Higher Ground’s large campus provides plenty of space and comfortable accommodations. For those without WINZ benefits, the program is available at a weekly cost of $185.00.
