Recovery at WildWood Farm, a LGTBQI+ friendly substance use treatment center located along the Connecticut Shoreline, provides a comprehensive extended care program and adventure-based activities for its clients. The program takes a client’s personal history into account when forming a treatment plan and places an emphasis on evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivating interviewing, and family therapy. To enhance their experience-based active lifestyle, clients can take part in gardening, animal care, farm and household chores, yoga, hiking, meditation, local excursions, and cooking. The farm’s ‘queer-normative’ campus encourages clients to move from a shame-based identity to one of pride. The facility’s lovable cats, goats, pigs, and therapy dog help to create a safe and inclusive environment for members of the gay community.
