Sheepgate is a nonprofit rehab program and a division of Adult + Teen Challenge of the Midlands that provides faith-based, gender-specific treatment for men. Their 12-month program is highly structured and different from traditional recovery treatments, as it is based on biblical principles and teachings. Residents participate in instruction, independent study, 1-on-1 counseling, work-ethics instruction, and other Christian activities to learn how to apply God’s work in their lives. Additionally, they help those who desire to get GEDs and provide work experience programs for residents to learn new skills. Sheepgate has two houses, one in Colfax, Iowa where residents go through the initial recovery phase, and one in Omaha, Nebraska. At the Colfax house, residents are housed in dormitory-style accommodations, where they take part in work projects, house chores, and other activities. During the last five months of the program, they move to the Omaha house, which gives them more freedom to find jobs and hobbies while maintaining sobriety. With a 70% success rate, Sheepgate offers a low-cost program and is dedicated to helping its residents through commitment, compassion, and faith-based curriculum.
